Manasa Trust was founded with the objective of promoting the concept of positive mental health e and trying to drive away the myths and misconceptions regarding mental ill health. It also aims at contributing towards the overall development of the community. It was established in the year 1998, by Dr. K. A. Ashok Pai. As a first step to fulfil its objectives it started programmes to educate nursing students in the discipline of psychiatry, psychology and psychiatric social work.
About 50+ batches of nurses have so far received training. Post graduate students of Psychology and Social work from various colleges of different universities of Karnataka are provided with an opportunity to carryout assignments and block placements in its nodal centre, Manasa Nursing Home.
Manasa Trust has also carved out a special niche for itself in Karnataka by organizing literary, socio-cultural and academic activities. The Trust organizes the late Kateel Appu Pai memorial lectures on contemporary issues. Ms.Kiran Bedi, Shri.Mohan Agashe, Ms.Margaret Alva, Dr. B.M. Hegde are among the celebrities who have delivered the annual lectures.
The Trust has hosted programmes featuring Shri.Girish Karnad, Shri.Shyam Benegal, Shri.Suresh Hebliker, Shri.P. Sainath & Shri.Jairam Ramesh, Shri.Balakrishna Shetty, Shri. Rajdeep Sardesai, Shri.K.V.Kamath-ICICI and Shri. Srinivas Dempo Many of these activities have been collaboratively organized in association with Kuvempu University and other educational institutions.
Manasa Trust offers diploma & post graduate degree courses through its unit Manasa Educational Foundation to promote mental health awareness and to offer quality education in the field of counselling and psychology. The objective is to educate a large number of paramedical workers, trained counsellors and to provide doctors with additional expertise.
